Today’s culture may claim it offers sex-positive lifestyles and entertainment. But that's not true intimacy. Intimacy involves safety and security.

Today’s Scripture

I am my beloved’s and beloved is mine. Song of Solomon 6:3, ESV

Today’s Devotion

What is the secret to a true intimacy? Is it communication? Listening? Sex?

The secret is when two hearts feel safe and secure, they open to each other and allow true intimacy – knowing and being known.

The Song of Solomon tells the story of a couple who enjoy the goodness of a safe, secure, and intimate marriage. It’s the kind of marriage we all want to enjoy. Song of Solomon shows us it’s possible.

The book (a love song) tells the story of a girl who captures the heart of a king. At first glance, the story is as simple as a Hallmark tale – girl meets boy. A romance begins. The lovers are separated. Someone or something disrupts the relationship. But at last, true love conquers all.

But the Song of Solomon adds something most Hallmark movies avoid – sex. But not just any sex. The Song of Solomon gives us a peek at what Adam and Eve must have experienced in the Garden of Eden. It was passionate, erotic, and satisfying. It’s everything the world wants but can never experience outside of God’s design for the safety and security of the marriage covenant.

Today’s culture may claim it offers sex-positive lifestyles and entertainment. Don’t fall for it. They’re only offering an excuse for our worst excesses. Instead, look at the goodness God offers to couples who are willing to follow His plan and build a marriage that is safe, secure, and exciting.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of sex. Forgive us for the times we’re distracted by the world’s false claims about intimacy. Help us build a marriage relationship that becomes a safe, secure garden where intimacy and love can flourish.
